Fantastically Fun Fridays: July 22

Whew, it's Friday!  We hope that wherever you have been this week, you have been staying cool.

Since the best plan for the weekend seems to be hiding out inside, browsing the Internet with the AC turned on high, here are some fun links to get you started!

  • Sure-to-work plans for improving the Death Star. (ilovecharts)
  • Steampug! (Flickr)
  • It's cool enough that these musicians collaborated to play music from Dr. Who, but the method of their collaboration is really amazing. (Airlock Alpha)
  • Fun fact: David Bowie released "Space Oddity" on July 11, 1969, five days before the Apollo 11 launch.  The BBC used the song in their coverage of the Apollo 11 launch and moon landing. (YouTube/Wikipedia)
  • More awesome Legos!  Created by Sam Beattie, these figures will be particularly appealing to Game of Thrones and Firefly fans (which is everyone, right?). (sambeattie.wordpress.com/Flickr)
  • For the fashion-conscious, a dress made out of a map of Middle-earth and a pin from Pat Rothfuss' The Kingkiller Chronicles might be just the thing. (io9/Black Milk Clothing and Badali Jewelry)
  • A link that is definitely NOT fun, but interesting nonetheless: Universal has apparently passed on the Dark Tower film project.  /sob (Deadline)
  • Soulless meets heartwarming: a Stormtrooper walks across Australia to raise money for seriously ill children. (Death Star PR)
  • And finally, if you're looking for things to read over the weekend, here are the recently awarded Shirley Jackson winners. (Locus)
Speaking of awards, next week we will be featuring reviews of all the novels nominated for Hugo Awards, so make sure you come back and see what we think!
